"Draw to Music" is an unique artistic training program for children through combining visual art with thematic music.
A process of learning known as ‘synesthesia’- sharpening one sense by stimulating another. Through listening to character music such as Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saëns, children are asked to paint or draw the images that come to their mind from the music they hear. Music is a language that can tell stories, provoke feelings, suggest images through musical lines (melody), color (harmony), movement (tempo) and intensity (dynamics). As such, children can express these feelings or images visually by painting or drawing, expressing these inspirations from within their own imaginations, internally rather than externally, from visual sources. In turn, with visual representations, music become more tangible and understandable. Otherwise, music, particularly Classical style can be too abstract and not engaging to children. Having visual aid helps children appreciate Classical music in much greater extend.
